Allen & Overy announces a new wave of promotions in Luxembourg

Allen & Overy has announced the promotion of two new partners, four new counsel, nine senior associates and ten members of the business function in Luxembourg, effective 1 May 2023.

The new partners are:

  • Andreas Hommel – Andreas specialises in domestic and cross-border real estate and fund finance transactions, advising asset managers, financial institutions and corporates. Andreas has extensive expertise in enforcements and restructuring transactions. His practice also extends to capital relief products and leveraged finance transactions. Andreas is a former president of the Luxembourg young bar association. He joined Allen & Overy in 2011.
  • Miao Wang – Miao specialises in advising asset managers on the structuring, establishment and ongoing operation of private funds investing across a broad range of asset classes (including PE/VC funds, infrastructure funds, real estate funds, credit funds, impact funds, fund of funds, etc.), as well as of pledge funds, separately managed accounts, co-investment vehicles and carried interest vehicles. She also regularly assists institutional investors on their participation/investments in private funds and advises funds and credit providers on fund finance transactions.

The new partners are part of a global partners promotion round of 36 lawyers, with a total of 13 of the firm’s offices represented.

Promoted to Counsel are Vittoria Faraone (Investment Funds), Helena Finn (Regulatory), Lisa Klemann (Investment Funds), and Lukas Vondrich (Banking & Finance).

Allen & Overy also promotes to Senior Associate: Barbara Azoulay (IP, Data & Tech), Anne-Sophie Besançon (Regulatory), Sergei Bogdanov (Investment Funds), Natalia Celac-Taraboanta (Investment Funds), Eléonore Dalbin (Corporate), Laurie Lougsami (Employment), Timon Margue (Investment Funds), Raphael Theiss (Corporate/M&A) and Paul Wagner (IP, Data & Tech).

In addition to the 15 lawyer promotions, the firm also announced the promotion of 10 members of the business function. The members being promoted are: Alina Golovkova (PR & Communications Executive), Aurélie de Seyssel (Events & Digital Marketing Executive) and Anna Boico (Senior Events & Digital Marketing Specialist) in the marketing department; Alexandra Depierre (Finance Executive), Henrieta Chudikova and Naïma Harrat (both Working Capital Controller) in the finance department; Brice Brendlin (IT & AV Officer) in the IT department; and Alysia Amaglio (Executive HR Business Partner | CSR Executive), Samantha Gauer (Senior Training Officer) and Julie Garnon (Talent Acquisition Officer) in the HR department.

New partners

Andreas Hommel has been promoted to Partner in the Banking & Finance department. Andreas specialises in domestic and cross-border real estate and fund finance transactions, advising asset managers, financial institutions and corporates.

Andreas has extensive expertise in enforcements and restructuring transactions. His practice also extends to capital relief products and leveraged finance transactions.

Andreas is a former president of the Luxembourg young bar association. He joined Allen & Overy in 2011.

Miao Wang has been promoted to Partner in the Investment Funds department. Miao advises asset managers on the structuring, establishment and ongoing operation of Luxembourg private funds investing across a broad range of asset classes (including PE/VC funds, infrastructure funds, real estate funds, credit funds, impact funds, fund of funds, GP stake funds and crypto funds), as well as of pledge funds, separately managed accounts, co-investment vehicles and carried interest vehicles.

Miao has extensive experience in advising on cross-border funds structuring. She is experienced with both Luxembourg and Cayman structures. Miao also regularly assists sovereign funds and institutional investors on their participation/investments in private funds and advises funds and banks on fund finance transactions.

She is an active member of the Luxembourg Private Equity Association (LPEA) and the Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry (ALFI).

New counsel

Vittoria Faraone has been promoted to Counsel. Vittoria advises on general investment funds and regulatory matters in relation to Luxembourg regulated (UCITS, Part II UCIs, SIFs and SICARs) and unregulated investment vehicles (limited partnerships and RAIFs), across a variety of asset classes such as private equity, venture capital, private debt, real estate and infrastructure.

She also advises on the establishment and licensing of alternative investment fund managers and fund management companies as well as on their ongoing regulatory obligations and cross-border issues. Vittoria advises sponsors, funds and fund service providers on complex regulatory issues as well. She is a member of the Legal - Young Private Equity Leaders group, a sub-group of the LPEA’s Legal Committee.

Vittoria joined Allen & Overy in 2017, prior to which she gained experience in the regulatory department at one of the Big 4.

Helena Finn has been appointed to Counsel in the (Re)Insurance Regulatory practice. Helena advises on (re)insurance regulatory matters (including M&A, Solvency II, IDD, licensing requirements, governance issues, ESG), assisting life & non-life (re)insurers and intermediaries. She is also an expert in anti-money laundering and counter terrorism financing and matters (advisory and regulatory enforcement), as well as matters relating to the register of beneficial owners and the register of trusts and fiducies. Helena also advises on general regulatory matters in the banking and financial sector, focusing on licensing requirements and M&A.

She regularly holds conferences on various regulatory related topics in Luxembourg and is a member of working groups at Luxembourg level (Association des Compagnies d’Assurance – ACA in particular). Helena regularly publishes on regulatory topics (anti-money laundering and counter terrorism financing in particular).

Prior to joining Allen & Overy in 2022, Helena worked for nearly 8 years in another Luxembourg law firm, advising on general regulatory matters in both the (re)insurance and the banking & financial sector.

Lisa Klemann has been promoted to Counsel in the Investment Funds practice. Lisa advises clients on fund formation (liquid (including UCITS) and illiquid funds), with a particular focus on alternative investment funds (e.g., private equity, real estate, infrastructure, fund-of-funds, etc.).

She assists clients on regulatory and corporate matters relating to the ongoing operations of funds. She has vast experience in advising institutional investors in relation to their participation/investments in Luxembourg closed-ended funds. She also regularly advises both funds and banks in the context of fund financings. She has a strong expertise in ESG-related matters in the funds and asset management space. She advises on the establishment and licensing of alternative investment fund managers and fund management companies as well as on their ongoing regulatory obligations.

She successfully obtained the Sustainable Finance and Investment certificate from the Yale School of Management.

Lukas Vondrich has been promoted to Counsel in the Banking & Finance department. Lukas advises international private capital houses and financial institutions on strategic event-driven financing matters and cross-border restructurings. He has extensive experience with a wide range of new money transactions, as well as restructuring arrangements, security enforcement and cross-border insolvency matters.

Clients appreciate his lead role capability, commercial focus, experience from different European markets and deep technical knowledge of LMA documentation. Lukas is “highly accessible and knowledgeable” and “proved his worth on some recent deals as a reliable counsel dedicated to corporate finance matters”. IFLR 1000.
