Business teams
Find out why we think our professional support staff are key to the success of our business.
When you join Allen & Overy, you will be working with some of the brightest, most experienced people in the industry and will join a friendly, diverse and inclusive team. Our goal is simple: we want A&O to be a place where a diverse group of people can be themselves and bring the best of themselves to their careers.
At A&O, we are all responsible for making our LGBT+ colleagues feel welcome, valued and confident and that they will not be excluded or held back in any way.
In order to support our LGBT+ colleagues, we have our employee network, A&Out. The purpose of the network is to encourage diversity and to offer support and networking opportunities to A&O staff. The network also focuses on contributing to the business of the firm by developing new client relationships within the LGBT+ community and strengthening existing ones.
Achieving greater gender balance is central to the kind of firm we want to be. Within our China Practice, we are at 50% female partners, and in Hong Kong its 35%. We see this as excellent role modeling for our female associates and towards our aim of being known as the legal employer that women want to work for.
Our initiatives include the establishment of our Emerging Female Leaders cohort of high potential women who are sponsored and supported to take a leadership role in the firm. Our training programmes also target out junior female associates; inspiring and developing them to continue their careers at A&O.

Pro bono and community investment
The Pro Bono Committee co-ordinates activities that use the skills and time of our people to tackle pressing social issues. We have been recognised as a Caring Company by the Hong Kong Council of Social Services, and we were recently awarded the 15years+ Caring Company 2017/2018 Award in recognition of our continuing commitment in the areas of Caring for the Community, Caring for Employees and Caring for the Environment.
We organise our activities around two major themes (“Access to Justice” and “Access to Education and Employment”), which bring together our resources and experience on multi-jurisdictional projects, as well as addressing local needs in Hong Kong.
We actively support a number of different charities and community organisations in locally and abroad; including an annual Christmas present giving trip to an orphanage in Guangzhou, tea with the elderly at St Mary’s Home for the Aged and trips to the Philippines with International Care Ministries. We also provide pro bono advice to a number of organisations including the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children, Liberty Asia, Justice Without Borders, UNICEF and the Migrant Workers Rights Network.
We work to attract, develop and keep the very best people – and we don’t take them for granted.
All kinds of people work at Allen & Overy, and we all have a few things in common. We’re united by ambition and drive, and by the restless pursuit of excellence in everything we do. We foster a working environment based on collaboration and mutual respect, where everyone is trusted to do their very best work.
But as important as that work is, we know that it’s also important for our people to have a life beyond it. Everyone at A&O is given the space and encouragement to pursue their interests, and access to clubs and events where they can discover new passions. They can also take part in our programme of pro bono and community work that complements their skills and ambitions.
Put the competition far behind you.
We’re a pre-eminent global law firm, operating in over 30 countries around the world.
We’re the only law firm to have featured in the top three of the Financial Times Innovative Law Firm ranking every year, and to have topped the list five times. Last year we worked for 87% of Forbes’ top 100 public companies and we promoted 24 new partners around the globe.
This phenomenal success is built on the work of talented and motivated people who thrive in a supportive and collaborative environment, dedicated to delivering an exceptional standard of work for our clients, together.
We set the trends
Our track record of innovation is impressive. From our expansion into new jurisdictions, flexible working for partners, and our alternative resourcing options such as Peerpoint, we are setting the standard for what a global law firm should look like. We’re determined not just to be at the forefront of developments, but to set the pace and lead the way.
We’re ambitious and driven. We challenge each other and the status quo. We’re open, honest, and never afraid of change. We expect you to own your career, so don’t wait to be told, go out and seize the opportunity.
Our global success is built on our network of internationally agile lawyers.
With offices in 31 countries, we act as one global law firm driving excellence consistently across the world and setting the standard for the future. Wherever the next challenge arises, we’re ready to send the best people to be by our clients’ side. Enhancing our international mobility is central to our strategy, paramount to our firm’s performance and your personal and professional growth. So we’re encouraging all of our people to seize the next international opportunity, develop a global mind-set, broaden their cultural exposure and expand their network.
If you want to make it happen, we provide the support you need to thrive. We offer short and long-term opportunities across our entire network – from New York to Hong Kong, London to Dubai and beyond. Our Global Mobility Team are on hand to smooth the process over, taking care of the logistics so you can take care of the law. That’s why we are leaps and bounds ahead of the competition when it comes to global mobility, moving a significant number of people every year. We make an international focus part of our DNA so you can reap the rewards.
With over 5,500 people in 44 offices, we’re a business doing work of global significance.
We’re one firm structured as seven global practices; over half of our transactions involve three or more jurisdictions, and nearly three-quarters of the work we do draws on the resources of two or more of our offices.
What we do goes beyond delivering an outstanding service. We lead the market by finding new ways of meeting the challenges that our clients face. Our thinking is innovative and our approach, fearless. We draw on a world-leading network of expertise and on a diverse range of tools – such as our Legal Services Centre and our network of over 300 Peerpoint consultants - to successfully exceed expectations.
Global coverage in today’s market does not simply mean having offices in important cities around the world. For us, it means combining our international resources and sector expertise to work on cross-border transactions directly in the markets and regions important to our clients. For you it means wherever your ambitions lie, we can provide you with the opportunity and the scope to have a career more fulfilling than you can imagine.
