Caroline Bley

Senior Associate

Caroline represents clients in patent infringement and validity proceedings in German courts and in opposition proceedings at the European Patent Office.

Caroline combines her scientific understanding of molecular biology, genetics and biochemistry with legal expertise in intellectual property law to advise clients in national and international patent proceedings in all areas of life sciences with focus on pharma and biotechnology.

As a biologist by training, she has experience, in various molecular and genetic techniques including amongst others, molecular cloning and amplification reaction technology, peptide and protein-based technologies, analytical lipidomics, liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. In addition, Caroline has experience in technologies concerning transgenic plants and therapeutic antibodies.

Caroline was involved in a variety of EPO opposition cases both on the patent proprietor’s and the opponents side.

Caroline also coordinates multinational patent litigation regarding validity and infringement for large domestic and global, foreign companies with a strong focus on pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.

In addition, Caroline provides advice in relation to infringement and validity opinions, FTO analyses and evaluation of patent portfolios in the context of M&A transactions.
