Sally Dewar

CEO of Consulting

Sally is the CEO of A&O Shearman’s consulting and strategic advisory practice.

Previously she spent 7 years at JPMorgan (JPM) and prior to that 10 years at the Financial Services Authority (FSA) in the UK. She is a qualified chartered accountant who worked both in audit and corporate finance at KPMG earlier in her career.

Sally works on a range of mandates in relation to Brexit implementation, focused primarily on designing proportionate and effective governance frameworks for new corporate entities, supporting senior management in understanding additional local responsibilities, as well as designing AML and culture and conduct capabilities including in respect of training tools and risk assessment frameworks.

At JPM Sally provided advice and leadership on a range of strategic issues across EMEA and APAC as the International Head of Regulatory Affairs. She steered the company’s Brexit strategy discussions with UK and EU regulators on structure, governance and risk. She headed the design and delivery of the culture and conduct agenda across EMEA and APAC (which was then adopted worldwide) as well as a wide range of governance initiatives including designing an individual accountability regime for UK entities. Additionally, Sally oversaw EMEA governance and carried out various governance effectiveness reviews, as well as being responsible for JPM’s advocacy efforts around policy reform in EMEA and APAC. She was also elected onto the first European Securities & Markets Authority (ESM) Stakeholder Group which covered all market stakeholders including market infrastructure providers. 
At the FSA Sally was most recently Managing Director of the Risk Division and a member of the Board. In this role she was responsible for the policy direction, risk management processes, governance and markets oversight - including responsibility for the UK Listing Authority and the supervision of regulated markets and related infrastructure. During this time she sat on the Board of CESR (Committee of European Securities Regulators). 
In respect of other Board roles, Sally has held numerous positions across a range of corporate and not for profit organisations. Additionally, she attended the JPMorgan Securities Plc Board meetings as a permanent attendee, providing strategic governance and other regulatory advice to the Chairman and other Board Executives.

Sally studied pure Mathematics and French at UMIST, now part of the University of Manchester.
