Global Trends in Merger Control Enforcement

In 2018, against a background of political uncertainty we saw the M&A cycle reach its peak.

Antitrust authorities maintained their appetite to intervene. More than 29 transactions with a value of over EUR46.3 billion were prohibited or abandoned due to antitrust concerns. At least 139 deals were subject to remedies. And fines for breaches of procedural rules continued to break records. As we head into 2019, antitrust (as well as other regulatory) risk remains high on the agenda for dealmakers.
