Finsia - False information can still be information for the purposes of the Australian insider trading law

Insider trading generally connotes someone trading based on correct price sensitive information ahead of that information being generally available in the market. However, the High Court has clarified that the information does not have to be correct, or indeed sourced from the company, for the insider trading provisions to potentially apply.
