Allen & Overy publishes third issue of The Business and Human Rights Review

20 February 2014

Allen & Overy LLP’s Human Rights Working Group is delighted to publish the third issue of The Business and Human Rights Review, an interdisciplinary journal that brings together academia, business, NGOs and multilateral bodies to debate issues pertaining to the relationship between business and human rights.

The third issue includes an interview with Dr Christian Leitz (head of corporate responsibility at UBS AG), a foreword by Matthew Townsend (Partner at Allen & Overy LLP and member of the HRWG Executive Committee) and articles by human rights scholars Dr David Kinley (Chair of Human Rights Law at Sydney Law School and Academic Panel Member of Doughty Street Chambers, London) and Jahan Navidi (Associate of the Sydney Centre for International Law at Sydney Law School), as well as contributions from Jamie A. Williamson (legal advisor to the International Committee of the Red Cross), Susanne Gebauer (Programme Manager for Labour Practices and Human Rights Verification Services at UL Responsible Sourcing Inc.) and one of our own lawyers.

Topics covered in this issue include, among others, the Thun Group of Banks’ Discussion Paper on the Guiding Principles, a discussion of the evolving legal landscape for human rights risk in the supply chain in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Kiobel; how to identify and mitigate the risk of human trafficking in supply chains; and the regulation of private military and security contractors, including an examination of the industry’s recent self-regulatory initiatives.
