  Vanessa Turner

Vanessa has a broad practice advising her clients on merger clearance (Phase I and II at EU and national Member State level), cartels and other antitrust matters before the European Commission and other regulators. She splits her time between our Brussels and London offices.

Prior to joining Allen & Overy, Vanessa was General Counsel and Executive Vice President, Company Secretary at Visa Europe.

Vanessa served at the European Commission as a member of the Cabinet of the European Commissioner for Competition Policy Neelie Kroes – the only law firm partner to have held such a position to date. Vanessa advised the Commissioner on a range of merger, antitrust (Article 101 and 102 TFEU) and cartel cases and policy across all sectors. Her responsibilities also included the ECN and cooperation with other competition authorities around the world.

After the Cabinet, Vanessa became a special adviser to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (Office of International Affairs) in Washington, D.C. and New York.

Before joining the Commission, Vanessa spent eight years as a partner in another leading Brussels antitrust practice.

Vanessa is an English and German qualified lawyer and speaks English, German and French fluently and has a good command of Dutch.

Vanessa has been identified by Global Competition Review's independent research with clients and peers as being among the world's leading competition lawyers. She has twice featured in the Global Competition Review 100 Women in Antitrust survey.

Vanessa is international editor on the ABA Antitrust Magazine editorial board.
