Simon is a partner in our corporate team in Hong Kong and Head of our Myanmar practice. Simon has been based in Asia since 1988 and advises on a wide range of corporate matters including M&A, large real estate transactions, FDI and restructuring. He works across a number of specialist areas including telecoms, securities, insurance, power and natural resources.

Initially based in Hong Kong but for many years in ASEAN, Simon was responsible for opening our offices in Thailand (in the 1990’s), Vietnam (2012) and latterly Myanmar as part of our strategy to cover the emerging markets of ASEAN and complement our existing offices in Singapore and Indonesia. Simon was based in Myanmar prior to moving back to Hong Kong in early 2016 to provide better coverage of ASEAN from Hong Kong.

According to Chambers 2016, Simon Makinson ‘is considered by peers to be "the standout for corporate matters."’.
