Gerard specialises in corporate governance, corporate litigation, mergers and acquisitions, public takeovers, international corporate law and Dutch Carribean Company law (including Supreme Court Litigation).

He is a lawyer and of counsel at Allen & Overy. He is full professor of corporate law since 1997 at the Radboud University Nijmegen, managing director at Van der Heijden Institute, Research Department for Corporate Law of the Research Centre Company & Law (Onderzoekcentrum Onderneming & Recht), a research centre recognized by the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences (KNAW). His memberships include among others the Commissie Vennootschapsrecht (advisory board to the Ministry of Justice), Commissie Kapitaalmarkt (advisory board to the Netherlands Authority For the Financial Markets and member of the editorial board of the leading Dutch corporatelaw journal.

Gerard was a founding member and first president of the Corporate Litigation Association. He has written numerous publications on corporate governance, corporate litigation, mergers and acquisitions (including a thesis on cross-border legal mergers, 1994 cum laude), public bids and international corporate law.
