Benjamin is a partner and the head of the China IP practice for Allen & Overy. He has over 15 years of experience in protecting IP in China, U.S. and Europe. A native Chinese and U.S. trained patent lawyer, he concentrates on representing multinational companies in protecting, licensing, and enforcing IP rights in China and Chinese companies in resolving IP disputes outside China. With the unique combination of a Ph.D. in chemistry and strong expertise in international IP disputes, he is a trusted advisor to world’s top companies on IP issues. His representative matters include: acting as lead counsel for multinational companies in patent infringement suits in China, including defense of Nokia in patent infringement suits brought by Qualcomm in China and handling of infringement suits against Chinese generic companies on behalf of global pharmaceutical companies; acting as lead IP counsel for complex technology transactions; advising Global 500 companies on IP licensing strategies and IP strategies for R&D activities in China; and resolving patent infringement disputes for Chinese companies outside China.
Benjamin is a prolific writer and frequent speaker on intellectual property issues. He has been an invited speaker on China IP issues around the world and has lectured extensively in the U.S., Europe, and China. He also has written numerous articles on IP protection in China and has more than a dozen scientific publications to his credit.
