Allen & Overy invites applications for Cohort 3 of Fuse

Allen & Overy (A&O) is now taking applications from companies to form part of the third cohort in Fuse, their tech innovation space.

Applicants will be asked to describe their team, their company and the problem(s) they are aiming to solve. Applications close on 25 January and a pitch day will take place in February, before successful companies move into the space shortly thereafter.

Both early stage and more mature companies can apply to work in the specially-designed area within A&O’s London offices and successful applicants will be invited to work in the space for approximately six months.

Started in September 2017, Fuse, headed by Shruti Ajitsaria, was created to give A&O lawyers and clients opportunities to better understand the use of technology that could benefit them. For the Fuse cohort, it is designed to give them the resources and contacts to develop their products successfully and on an accelerated track, supported though the vast network of A&O lawyers.

Since its inception, there have been a number of significant milestones in Fuse, including the successful issuance by cohort member, Nivaura, of the world’s first fully automated cryptocurrency-denominated bond and of the first structured product to be transacted and custodied using blockchain. Bloomsbury AI, another Fuse resident has been purchased by Facebook. Over the last year, A&O has also licensed the technology of two of the cohort members: Avvoka, an end to end automated contract platform and Legatics, an intelligent deal platform designed for use on large scale transactions.

More recently the FCA and Bank of England’s Digital Regulatory Reporting pilot team were welcomed in to Fuse, and are looking at how technology could potentially improve the efficiency of the current regulatory reporting process.

Shruti Ajitsaria, Head of Fuse, commented: “Fuse acts as a radar enabling us to understand what is out there in terms of technology-driven solutions to the challenges that our lawyers and clients face every day.

“Selecting a new cohort will enable us to continue to be a destination and a collaborative partner for best-in-class tech companies with whom we find synergies.”
