The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is held each year in Washington D.C. by the International Law Students Association and the American Society of International Law.
This is the most prestigious moot competition in the world, with thousands of participants from over 500 law schools in more than 100 countries.
This year Allen & Overy covered the travel and accommodation costs of the team from the Moscow State University (MSU) who went on to win the prestigious trophy – the first time a team from a Russian university has achieved such a result.
In the final round the Russian team triumphed over three-time champions Columbia University (USA). This was all the more remarkable because there have only been a few occasions when a team from a non Anglo-American jurisdiction has won the competition, which was named after Philip Jessup in 1960.
Aleksandra Ivlieva, one of the MSU team members, commented: "The victory we are now celebrating would not have come about, if not for the time, money, effort and devotion granted to us so generously by our team's supporters".
Edwin Tham, Global Head of the Russia Practice Group and Managing Partner of the Moscow office, said: "This is a truly impressive achievement by the MSU team and we are extremely proud of them. The Moscow office is glad to have played a part in their victory."
Allen & Overy is regularly involved in educational programmes organised by the leading Moscow law universities.
