International Human Rights Day

 

​This week sees Allen & Overy take part in a series of events across the UK to mark International Human Rights Day on 10 December.

Organised by the Law Society of England & Wales, this free programme of events brings together leading practitioners and academics to debate topics as wide ranging as the evolution of human rights in the UK since the Magna Carta; and the Ebola crisis in the context of global access to health.

 
A&O’s Human Rights Week events
 
A&O is hosting two events during Human Rights Week; one in London and one in Belfast.
 
Climate Change & Human Rights
 
A&O’s London event is taking place on 11 December in Bishops Square on the topic of ‘Climate Change & Human Rights: Pursuing Justice in a Time of Climate Disruption’.
Matthew Townsend – Partner and Head of the London Environmental and Regulatory Law Group – will chair a panel of leading legal professionals, academics and advisers to business and government on a discussion about the challenge of climate justice and the agenda for action.

How to be a Human Rights Advocate: the Experience of Women

 

This event, hosted by our Belfast office, is part of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Festival.

 

Taking place on 10 December, it is for women who are shaping the face of human rights in Northern Ireland. Speakers will lead a discussion on the different paths, challenges and opportunities that form women’s experience of working as human rights advocates in Northern Ireland.

The Law Society’s Annual Human Rights Conference this year is on the theme of Business and Human Rights. Chair of A&O’s Human Rights Working Group, Litigation Partner Andrew Denny, will be speaking at the conference on the topic of supply chains, responsibility and accountability.
