British Legal Awards: Senior partner Wim Dejonghe named Law Firm Leader of the Year and A&O takes Competition team prize

Allen & Overy took home two awards from the prestigious British Legal Awards in London last night, winning Competition Team of the Year and A&O senior partner Wim Dejonghe being named Law Firm Leader of the year.

The Law Firm Leader of the Year award was the first prize of the evening and presented to senior partner Wim Dejonghe, recognising his leadership achievements at A&O. On receiving the award, Wim said: "Having been both managing and senior partner at A&O has been, and continues to be, a privilege, enjoyable and very interesting. Everything we do at A&O is very much a team effort so I’d like to dedicate this award to everyone at the firm and to all our clients."

The Competition team was recognised for its ground-breaking work advising long-standing client 21st Century Fox on the extensive merger control and regulatory issues of its takeover bid for Sky plc. Global co-head of competition, Antonio Bavasso, who led the A&O team on this case, commented: "This is a special award for our team as it recognises our innovative work on one of the most legally challenging and high-profile deals in recent years. I’m proud of our talented team who very much deserve this award."
