Allen & Overy on judging panel for Hong Kong portion of Global Legal Hackathon, the world’s largest legal hackathon

22 February 2019

Allen & Overy is supporting the LegalRegTechHack scheduled for 22-24 February 2019 at Cyberport’s Fintech Smart Space.

The event is part of the Global Legal Hackathon, the world’s largest legal hackathon, which aims to bring together legal practitioners, law students and technologists in law in support of a unified vision: the rapid development of solutions to improve the legal industry worldwide.

Allen & Overy will provide mentorship and support for the Hong Kong contestants and partner Ross Stewart will be on the judging panel. The three-day event in Hong Kong will see teams setting a problem statement and building a working prototype. The final proposals will then be presented to the judging panel this Sunday and the winners will have the opportunity to participate in the grand final in New York. The event is being held during the same weekend in 22 countries and 40 different cities, with over 5000 people participating globally. Last year, the winning Hong Kong team, Decoding Law, also took home an award at the Global Legal Hackathon grand final.

Ross commented: “The LegalRegTechHack is an excellent snapshot of the rapidly evolving and converging worlds of law, regulation, deal-making and innovative technology. We are delighted to see law firms and industry associations coming together to support our home-grown technology start-ups and would like to wish all the contestants the very best of luck.”

Legal Technology is an area in which Allen & Overy has great experience, from the successful launch of MarginMatrix (a digital derivatives compliance system to help major banks deal with derivatives regulatory requirements) to our tech innovation space Fuse, which brings together a range of carefully selected technology companies, clients and our own technology experts to explore and develop solutions.
