Bolstering our private equity practice in Germany with appointment of Nils Koffka

17 January 2018

Allen & Overy has announced the appointment of Nils Koffka as partner in Hamburg.  Nils, who joins from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, brings a wealth of experience advising private equity funds, domestic and international investors and family offices in domestic and cross-border acquisitions, divestitures and leveraged buy-outs.  A recent example of his work on large-cap transactions includes advising his long-standing client BC Partners in connection with the acquisition of CeramTec (EUR2.6bn) from Cinven.

Commenting on this appointment, Thomas Ubber, senior partner of Allen & Overy Germany, stresses the strategic importance of this development: “Nils’ proven record in advising on complex and high-volume transactions is the perfect complement to our existing robust private equity offering and significantly expands our market position in Germany.”

Nils’ appointment is the latest development in A&O’s investment in its M&A and private equity practices in Germany and follows that of Dominik Stühler who will join Allen & Overy's Munich office with his team. Last year, A&O also announced the appointment of Michiel Huizinga in Frankfurt to its Corporate/M&A practice to further expand the successful private equity department led by Markus Kaepplinger.

Dirk Meeus, global co-head of Corporate comments: “Germany is fast becoming the preferred investment destination for private equity in Europe. Nils’ appointment is another significant step in increasing our bench depth in this market to anticipate and meet the needs of our global private equity client base.”

Nils adds: “Allen & Overy has established an excellent reputation for cross-border M&A as well as private equity expertise and I am looking forward to working with other A&O partners to meet the requirements of private equity houses for high quality advice in this key European jurisdiction and internationally.”
