Allen & Overy wins International Law Firm of Year – Philippines at the ALB Awards

Allen & Overy was awarded International Law Firm of Year, at the Asian Legal Business Philippine Law Awards 2018. The team has now won this award for three successive years. Additionally, our work on the financing of Udenna Group’s acquisition of prime property in the Clark Freeport zone was awarded Debt Market Deal of the Year. Further, a number of other deals were nominated for M&A Deal of the Year.

For over 25 years, Allen & Overy has been advising major Philippine conglomerates, banks, the Philippine government, government-owned and controlled corporations and other privately controlled corporations on their transactions both inbound and outbound. Our Philippines practice is made up of lawyers’ across our global network bringing a diverse range of skills to support our clients across M&A, banking, projects, international capital markets and international arbitration.

Counsel Gian Sambalido, comments: “Without a doubt it’s our combination of a well-rounded offering plus access to an extensive local and international client network that gives us a competitive edge in the Philippines. Not only do we cover all the major practice areas, but the service we provide in each is top notch.”

Alun Evans, Corporate partner adds: “Despite a lot of noise, nothing seems to have dampened deal activity ‘on the ground’. From what we’re seeing, deal volumes really continue to increase on both the outbound and inbound side. We are very excited about Philippine clients increasingly going regional and global, plus international clients going into the Philippines for the first time.”

The Philippines is a founding member of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. Like many other countries in the region, it is increasingly on the radar of financial and strategic investors, and according to Forbes last year, the Philippines was the tenth fastest growing economy in the world. We’ve see evidence of that investment and growth in some of the big name deals we’ve advised on over the last 12 months.
