Allen & Overy wins ABCN Award for Excellence in Member Company Engagement

Allen & Overy has been awarded the Australian Business and Community Network Award for Excellence in Member Company Engagement at the ABCN Leadership Dinner, held in Sydney on 8 August. The Award is given to the company with the highest percentage of staff participating in ABCN core mentoring programs.

ABCN is a not-for-profit organisation that connects businesses with students from disadvantaged backgrounds for mentoring and partnership programs. It works with an extensive range of public schools across Australia, helping students to make sound choices in their personal lives, education and careers.

In 2017, 44 Allen & Overy staff from the Sydney office donated over 230 volunteer hours to the ABCN mentoring programs over the past year, mentoring students from five public schools around New South Wales.

“Allen & Overy is proud to support ABCN’s exceptional work, supporting upcoming generations of bright young Australians as they turn their thoughts to their future careers,” said Jason Denisenko. “Mentoring can be a life-changing experience for young people, and it’s important that we share the benefit of the talent, acumen and experience within our firm with students from all walks of life who may be interested in a career in professional services.”

“I want to acknowledge and thank the Allen & Overy staff who have volunteered their time and expertise to mentor students through ABCN. It is wonderful that so many of our staff are passionate about giving back to the Australian community. Our staff are outstanding role models for talented students seeking a bright future and they deserve credit for taking part.”

The evening was hosted by EY at its Sydney offices at Circular Quay. The Award was accepted on the firm’s behalf by Sydney Managing Partner Jason Denisenko and partner Karolina Popic.
