Allen & Overy Hosts 2nd Annual Leveraged Finance Training Camp in New York for 28 Major Financial Institutions

24 October 2018

On October 9, 2018, Allen & Overy’s NY Leveraged Finance team hosted its 2nd annual Leveraged Finance Training Camp (LFTC). LFTC is a one-day accelerator offered exclusively to A&O clients that provides junior and mid-level bankers with an in-depth look at the legal underpinnings of leveraged finance transactions through a series of presentations, panels and interactive sessions.

In attendance at this year’s event were approximately 160 bankers and credit professionals from 28 major financial institutions, including virtually all of the largest players in the U.S. leveraged finance market.  Additionally, Josh Weiner, Managing Director at First Reserve, a leading global private equity investment firm, participated in a fireside chat to share his “sponsor-side” perspective on the market, industry trends and transaction execution, among other insights around career progression and relationship development.

“Allen & Overy’s LFTC educates younger bankers on the latest trends, challenges and solutions to the legal and commercial aspects of leveraged finance deals so that they can more confidently navigate this complex product and execute transactions with greater precision,” said Todd Koretzky, a partner in Allen & Overy’s New York Leveraged Finance group and lead partner of LFTC. “Establishing this common language and understanding between lawyers and bankers is paramount to creating a more effective and efficient market.”

Presented by Allen & Overy partners and senior associates, the program covered a range of topics, including the leveraged loan and high yield bond products, acquisition finance considerations, commitment paper negotiations and process, market trend updates, capital structure analysis and cross-border considerations, focusing on both the concepts and documentation relevant to the leveraged finance business.

Philip Bowden, Co-Head of the firm’s Global Banking Practice, commented: “We have invested significantly in our US Leveraged Finance platform over the last two years, and remain deeply committed to our clients and the New York finance market.  LFTC is a reflection of that commitment.”

Tim House, U.S. Senior Partner, added: “Relationships are essential to any market, and client relationships are at the heart of A&O.  LFTC provides a unique forum for individuals from nearly all the top financial institutions across the U.S. market to meet, exchange ideas and insights and build relationships.”

The client response has been overwhelmingly positive, with survey results indicating that 100% of LFTC 2018 attendees would recommend the event to their peers.
