Markets Innovation Group

At Allen & Overy, we believe a digital revolution is coming to the legal industry. We’re determined to embrace this change and lead from the front. Our Markets Innovation Group, launched in 2018, supports this goal.

MIG is a dedicated team of global A&O partners that develops proprietary technology solutions for clients’ large-scale legal and regulatory challenges.
To date, MIG has brought four leading solutions to market, which clients are using to respond to Brexit and regulatory-driven repapering exercises:

Our online workflow platform with auto-drafting technology helps financial institutions repaper a range of contracts to reflect changes in corporate structure resulting from Brexit. The innovation won a ‘standout’ rating in the new products and services category at the 2018 FT Innovative Lawyers Awards.

Our tool helps funds determine whether they are within scope of phases 4 and 5 of the EU and U.S. Initial Margin (IM) rules and whether they are required to exchange IM with a particular counterparty. It distils both jurisdiction’s complex regulatory rules into user-friendly yes/no questions with automated logic-based reporting.

Our award-winning online negotiation platform with auto-drafting technology codifies laws in multiple jurisdictions and enables large-scale repapering of derivatives contracts. It helps organisations comply with the mandatory variation margin rules that now apply to the OTC derivatives market.

Our online platform reduces the time, effort and cost of negotiating and repapering derivatives contracts for Initial Margin (IM). It captures derivatives controls as extractable data points, and provides a full audit trail of all negotiation points, internal escalations and approvals, and electronic signatures.
