Barbara Stettner

Barbara is the managing partner of the Washington, D.C. office. Barbara's practice focuses on advising U.S. and foreign financial institutions on their regulatory and compliance obligations under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 and the Bank Secrecy Act. Barbara represents foreign and domestic banks, asset managers and broker-dealers on various regulatory aspects of Dodd-Frank, including Volcker and those provisions involving municipal advisors, investment advisers, and securities-based swap dealers. Barbara's practice also focuses on the regulatory obligations of domestic and cross-border fund raising activities including broker-dealer, finder and placement agent status questions, sales practice requirements and the federal and state pay-to-play, ethics and lobbying regulations. Claire Rajan
Senior Counsel in Washington, D.C.

Claire represents clients in regulatory, enforcement, and litigation matters involving political law issues. She advises clients on laws regulating campaign finance, lobbying, procurement, pay-to-play practices and gifts to public officials. Claire has developed expertise with compliance programs, particularly while on multiple secondments to major global financial services providers. Prior to joining Allen & Overy, Claire worked as a litigation attorney for the Federal Election Commission and served as counsel to Commissioner Ellen Weintraub. Full CV here.

Alice Englehart

Alice has acted for individuals, corporates and financial institutions in a number of complex and high-value court, international arbitration and employment tribunal proceedings both in England and abroad. She has conducted several internal investigations for clients with a particular emphasis on fraud and employee misconduct and has defended corporates and their senior management in regulatory proceedings. Jonathan Hitchin

Jonathan advises on a broad range of disputes affecting corporations including those arising in the acquisition and disposal of businesses and companies, the failure of joint ventures, claims arising out of the insolvency and reconstruction of corporate entities and fraud claims.  In recent years much of his time has been spent leading teams handling multi-jurisdictional corruption cases and other criminal investigations by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO). Russell Butland
Associate​ in London, U.K.

Russell is an associate in the London Corporate and Commercial litigation group, and is also a member of the Insurance litigation group.  He advises major international corporations and banks in cases involving fraud, contractual disputes, negligence, directors duties, and company law, both in the English courts and in arbitration proceedings. He also regularly advises policy holders in insurance disputes, with particular experience of political risk insurance.  Over the last few years Russell has expanded his practice to advise on political law issues in the UK, with a particular focus campaign finance.
