Business Development and Marketing

We provide a global capability of effective, coordinated and decisive legal advice. In order to achieve this we require high quality support for Allen & Overy's activities. As with all our support functions, Business Development and Marketing is a key component in driving the business forward and enhancing our reputation for excellence and innovation.

We seek exceptionally talented individuals to join us. We are actively committed to providing comprehensive training and development for all support staff by direct experience and formal training programs and offer outstanding career development opportunities. In all cases, you should possess the appropriate academic and professional qualifications. In addition, you should have a commercial approach, be able to think laterally, be pragmatic and well organized, and be able to cope under pressure.  

Business Services

The Business Services department covers a very wide variety of disciplines both locally and internationally. Across all areas, we seek to achieve the highest level of service and support for our internal customers and our clients. This is achieved by recruiting and retaining the best people. Business services consists of document production, duplicating, reception, and catering.

A career in business services is indeed varied, challenging and very satisfying. We are looking for professional, intelligent individuals who are highly customer-focused and who enjoy and understand the fast-paced legal environment.  

Human Resources

Providing a full HR service to our lawyers is a vital part of our business and we look for the best to support the best. The HR function in Allen & Overy plays a highly important facilitating role in enabling the firm to attract, motivate and retain the best possible quality of staff at all levels. 

Our global HR function is organized to reflect the international matricised structure of our business. Each territory has its own HR team who are part of a global HR network.

We often have opportunities for exceptionally talented HR professionals to join either our New York or Washington, D.C. line operational teams, or the central global team. If you have excellent experience in any of these areas and are ambitious, open-minded, adaptable and ready to take control of your HR career with Allen & Overy, we would like to hear from you.  

Information Technology

The IT department at Allen & Overy is responsible for the smooth operations of all IT services supporting the business, among which document management, messaging and telecommunications play a prominent role. The department will also stay close to the end-users to understand business requirements and deliver solutions fitting these needs accurately. In addition, the IT team is responsible for delivering training to all A&O staff, thus allowing end-users to make the most of our systems and work both efficiently and effectively. 

Legal PAs

About half of those working at Allen & Overy are support staff. The PA support is an increasingly sophisticated and demanding role, requiring greater use of technology and a wide range of skills.

We recruit significant numbers of legal PAs into all areas of Allen & Overy. As well as employing PAs with legal knowledge, we actively seek PAs from many other industries, including banking, finance, insurance and accountancy firms.

In return for a high level of technical ability, professionalism, team spirit and flexibility, we offer our PAs an excellent salary and benefits package, together with an in-depth induction program, technical training and an on-going development program. 

Library and Information 

Some 70 information professionals and library administrators work within our Global Library Service and practice groups. Roles reflect the global environment and individual expertise and include research, collection management, training, finance management, current awareness, systems development and project management.

Information services are integral to the firm's knowledge strategy. We look for innovative, resourceful individuals, committed to the provision and exchange of knowledge and information. The work is rewarding and there are excellent career development opportunities. 


In order to provide a seamless service to our clients we currently employ a number of paralegals in specific practice areas.

As a paralegal with us, you will play an instrumental role in the mechanics of the legal process. Although the role varies according to department, you will form an important part of the team. Your main focus will be to deliver a first class service to them as your internal clients, and thereby gain a valuable insight into the workings of a large legal practice.

Depending on the position, formal paralegal qualifications are necessary but you should be able to demonstrate strong legal skills, good attention to detail, enthusiasm and self-motivation in the face of what can sometimes be fairly routine work.
