The London Business Development and Marketing department plays a key role in enhancing our reputation for excellence and innovation at Allen & Overy. Business Services

In Business Services, our 200-strong team puts customer service above all else and delivers a platinum service.

Business Services consists of:

  • document production
  • print room
  • front of house
  • despatch
  • contracts
  • quality management
  • catering
  • property projects
  • procurement and stationery
  • security / health & safety

Our Document Services team is responsible for producing everything from lengthy legal documents to brochures and bespoke invitations for high-profile client events. Accuracy, efficiency and presentation are key and our designers, MS Office specialists and proofreaders work together and with clients to ensure the finished product is of the highest quality.

And then there’s our Communications team – switchboard, giving clients that all-important first impression of Allen & Overy, and the business services helpdesk, guiding our lawyers and support staff to exactly the right person within the organisation.

There is a direct link between the work of these teams and Allen & Overy’s clients. They produce the documents that present our expertise and credentials to the wider world, and are the voice of the business when clients call. So we are looking only for the highest-quality people.

We’re a diverse, dynamic team working within a diverse, dynamic organisation. Our Belfast team will work very closely with colleagues in London, and there are plenty of opportunities to expand your skills through development and training.

Finance

In Finance, we pride ourselves on delivering a platinum service. We only recruit people of the highest calibre performing to the highest standards, and have the best systems in place to help them.

We use Elite 3E, a new, leading-edge, financial software solution designed specifically for law firms. It enables us to manage our new business intake, billings, collections, payments and management reporting efficiently. It allows us to ensure consistent processes and controls throughout the firm. It helps us to deliver excellent service to our internal and external clients. And we provide this excellent service around the world. Work for us, and you’re working as part of a truly global finance function. You’ll have colleagues in 39 offices around the world – everywhere from Sydney to New York, from Hong Kong to Dubai and throughout Europe.

We need talented people to help us keep this valued infrastructure running smoothly 24/7. The first-rate support we provide to the business is plugged straight into our 42 offices around the world – everywhere from Sydney to New York, from Hong Kong to Dubai and throughout Europe.

And while a lot of our work will be done from our new office in Belfast – the central global hub for IT support – our skills and expertise occasionally take us around the world. Legal PAs

The PA support is an increasingly sophisticated and demanding role, requiring greater use of technology and a wide range of skills. We recruit legal PAs into all areas of Allen & Overy. As well as employing PAs with legal knowledge, we actively seek PAs from many other industries, including banking, finance, insurance and accountancy firms.

In return for a high level of technical ability, professionalism, team spirit and flexibility, we offer our PAs an excellent salary and benefits package, together with an in-depth induction programme, technical training and development programme.

Library and Information

The Library and Research function plays a pivotal role in the training of our lawyers, the support of our clients and the development of best practice.

Information services are integral to the firm's knowledge strategy. We look for innovative, resourceful individuals, committed to the provision and exchange of knowledge and information. The work is rewarding and there are excellent career development opportunities.

The team encompasses all aspects of the information profession – producing bespoke research pieces, delivering authoritative training, responding to legal and business queries and managing the extensive hard copy needs of our lawyers.

We work with the best, so we are looking to recruit only the best. We want proactive people who can deliver and contribute to the wider team and help us to develop our service even further.

We have specific responsibility for:

  • dealing with enquiries from across our global network
  • conducting research into key topics affecting Allen & Overy, the legal sector and the wider business world
  • the purchase and cataloguing of all our books
  • supporting the international growth of Allen & Overy
  • contributing to the evolution of our best practice for the cataloguing and management of sources of information

Paralegals

In order to provide a seamless service, Allen & Overy employs approximately 50 paralegals, most of whom are employed on a temporary basis, with contracts varying from 6 to 12 months. As a paralegal at Allen & Overy, you will play an instrumental role in the mechanics of the legal process and form an important part of the team alongside our partners, associates and trainees. Your main focus will be to deliver a first-class service to them as your internal clients, and thereby gain a valuable insight into the workings of a large legal practice.

Applicants will ideally have a background in the law and some previous paralegal experience. The role is especially suited to law graduates or LPC graduates. No formal paralegal qualifications are necessary but you should be able to demonstrate good attention to detail, enthusiasm and self-motivation in the face of what can sometimes be fairly routine work.

Professional Support Lawyers

Professional Support Lawyer (PSL) roles at Allen & Overy reflect the diversity of our international practice. We have over 50 PSLs, several at partner and consultant level, some working as part of know-how and training teams, others taking responsibility for a country's know-how development and management, or for specific projects.

We regard the PSL role as that of a 'lawyer plus'. Excellent technical legal skills are essential, but we look for confidence and dynamism too, and an aptitude for project and people management. In return, we offer you a rewarding working environment with serious opportunities to broaden and develop your skills and career.
