Since its foundation in 1930, Allen & Overy has gone from strength to strength, expanding through a combination of mergers, selective lateral hires and organic growth to become a truly international law firm.
We have over 5,200 members of staff working in 44 major centres worldwide, around 70% of whom are based in offices outside London.
On top of that, the majority of those promoted to partner in 2015 were based outside our London office in our global Antitrust, Banking, Corporate, Capital Markets, Litigation, Employment and Risk Management practices.
In the Asia Pacific region, we have offices in Bangkok, Beijing, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Myanmar, India, Perth, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo and teams actively working on Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Philippines, South Korea and Taiwan transactions.
Hong Kong is a thriving, multicultural city and is known as the commercial and financial gateway to Asia Pacific. Allen & Overy's Hong Kong office mirrors the city's international makeup. Our legal and support staff team comes from all over the world and is made up of a diverse mix of cultures, nationalities and also of graduate and non-graduate staff.
Each year, we look for a select number of new trainees to join us in September. We recruit two years in advance. Applications are welcome from penultimate to final year law or final year non-law students from Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and other common law jurisdictions.

Practices in Hong Kong
Corporate and M&A
Our award winning Asia Pacific Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) practice retains a strong reputation in key areas such as cross-border work, multi-jurisdictional acquisitions, public takeovers, venture capital direct investments, MBOs and joint ventures.
We are one of the leading legal practices in the field of takeovers, advising bidders, targets, controlling shareholders and their financial advisers as well as financiers of bids by way of debt or equity. In Hong Kong alone we have advised on numerous deals ranging from small or private transactions to the very largest public ones, including a number of complex multi-jurisdictional acquisitions.
International Capital Markets
The International Capital Markets (ICM) practice has been instrumental in nearly all the major developments in the modern financial markets. ICM advises issuers – organisations that are issuing debt and which are promising to repay it or, in the case of securitisation, the organisations whose assets are backing the debt. It acts for parties arranging the distribution of the product or providing services to transactions, such as trustees. ICM also houses one of the region’s premier derivatives and structured finance practices, where we provide advisory (including regulatory advisory) services and act as transaction counsel on derivatives and structured finance transactions.
Banking and Finance
Our highly acclaimed Asia Pacific Finance practice offers extensive coverage of banking products and state-of-the-art legal know-how; documentation which sets market standards; English and U.S. law capability, as well as domestic law capability in Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand together with in-depth knowledge of laws and regulations in the People's Republic of China (PRC).
We offer extensive coverage of banking products including syndicated finance; property finance; acquisition finance; structured finance; export credits; ship and aircraft finance and leasing.
The international flavour of our work is well matched by our multi-jurisdictional environment.
Litigation, Arbitration and Dispute Resolution
Allen & Overy's Litigation, Arbitration and Dispute Resolution practice in Hong Kong has been ranked in the top tier of a number of editions of The Asia Pacific Legal 500, the leading legal directory in Asia Pacific. We have considerable expertise in relation to all forms of dispute resolution and experience of handling or managing disputes in numerous jurisdictions. We can provide litigation and dispute resolution services throughout Asia Pacific through regional offices, joint venture partners or relationships with leading local firms.
We are the principal outside legal adviser, or panel member of outside legal advisers, to a large number of leading financial institutions, brokers, banks fund managers and other players in the financial services industry on issues involving compliance, disputes and ecommerce.
Our Asia Pacific regulatory group also has considerable experience in advising on collective investment schemes and investment products. We are regularly involved in documenting and advising on funds. Our clients include major banks, financial advisers and fund managers.
We are looking for outstanding financial services lawyers. If you have experience in regulatory and compliance law, ecommerce, collective investment scheme or investment products, then we would like to hear from you.
