Finance 

The work of our Finance team is a key to the success of our Singapore office. Our team has extensive experience and focuses on financial analysis, budget control, accounting and credit control.

Human Resources

We provide the full suite of HR services to our lawyers and staff. The team plays a critical role in the recruitment, management and retention of talent among both the lawyers and support staff at all levels.

Information Technology

Legal Professional Assistants

The Legal Professional Assistant role is an increasingly sophisticated and demanding one. This team boasts extensive knowledge and expertise in a wide range administrative software systems and processes.

Business Development & Marketing

Our Business Development and Marketing team work alongside our legal staff and play an intrinsic role in enhancing our reputation and driving the business forward.

Andrew To

I joined A&O upon relocating to Hong Kong from the UK back in 2014. What attracted me to the firm was the opportunity to develop my career. I believe that the diversity of its people, work ethic and culture is what makes A&O a great place to work and to grow.

I manage a high performing team to provide a responsive and proactive support service, as well as acting as IT ambassadors to promote and encourage technological enhancements. No two days are the same in my role, which makes for challenging and varied work.

What I enjoy most about my role is being able to support a variety of people within the office and also to work alongside my counterparts within the wider global IT team. It is evident to me that although we are physically based in different offices, we still work as one big team. A&O has also given me opportunities to travel and work in other offices around the network. A couple of highlights were spending a few weeks supporting our Sydney office and attending a team building event in Phuket shortly after I joined A&O.

Outside of my role, there are numerous volunteer schemes and committees to get involved in. For example, my involvement in pro bono work such as the Engage Community Business, a 6-month programme to positively impact disadvantaged teenagers through mentorship. I am also a member of the social committee, and have enjoyed organising wonderful activities for our colleagues. These activities offer me the opportunity to learn something new and to work closely with others.

After graduating, I worked at a local law firm for two years before joining A&O as an Administrative Assistant in 1998. My A&O career has included four challenging and interesting roles since then.

In 2011, I was promoted to Business Services Manager. In this role, I was responsible for ensuring full support of the office’s daily operations. Our Business Services department had 20 team members including Front of House, Print Operator, Search Clerk, Document Production and Office Assistant. I enjoyed this role because it offered me the opportunity to work with a variety of different members of staff and also meet different people externally, which broadened my knowledge and experience.

In 2015, my daughter was at an age when I needed to spend more time with her. I transferred to the new Peerpoint business as a Peerpoint Administrator, working part-time. This was an exciting role with a new team, which opened up a new chapter of my career and pushed me out of my comfort zone, while also enabling me to spend enough time with my daughter. I had the opportunity to work with more people outside of Hong Kong, as the business expanded to Australia and Singapore. Within 3 years, my role became regional and I took on more operational responsibilities in the regional team.

Recently I have just taken on my fourth role, which is a return to many of my previous responsibilities. I have taken on the role as Office Manager in Hong Kong, working with the Business Services Team. It is nice to work with some colleagues I worked very closely with before, and also to develop into this role that interacts across all of the A&O departments and while our office has expanded.

There are three main reasons I have stayed with the firm. Firstly, the people - We have diverse mix of cultures and nationalities, and we are still like a family, willing to take care of each other when facing challenges and also sharing successes. Secondly - the forward thinking nature of the firm and our investment in technology, personal development and resources; Peerpoint is just one example. Thirdly - the firm’s concern for the wellbeing of its staff, demonstrated through our flexible working policy and work life balance week. The firm also organises social activities, for example sports activities and family gatherings like Disney Halloween, AIA Carnival, and movie nights.

Working environment

It may be a cliché to suggest that Hong Kong lies at a crossroads for international business, but it is nonetheless true and our office here is an extremely important piece of the Allen & Overy jigsaw across Asia Pacific.

Learning & development

We’re passionate about providing top quality training and development for all our support staff. Our aim is to become 'the world's most advanced law firm' and our people are key to achieving this goal. With this end in mind, we have created the A&O Support Academy.

Its aim is to provide our support staff professionals globally with the leadership, management and business skills needed to succeed and reach their full potential. Designed in conjunction with our Support Faculty and delivered by a mix of internal and external facilitators, the programmes are specifically tailored to the every-day work reality and challenges of support staff professionals at A&O.

The Academy can be joined at any point in your career, from foundation, through advanced and up to mastery level. Many of the programmes are offered on a regional basis to enable everyone globally to attend and network with their peers from other offices.
