Why A&O?

We're a pre-eminent global law firm, operating in over thirty countries around the world.

We're the only law firm to have been featured in the top three of the Financial Times Innovative Law Firm ranking every year, and to have topped the list four times. Last year we worked for 87% of Forbes' top 100 public companies and we promoted 24 new partners around the globe.

This phenomenal success is built on the work of talented and motivated people who thrive in a supportive and collaborative environment, dedicated to delivering an exceptional standard of work for our clients. We're ambitious and forward-thinking, committed to growing our business and meeting the future head-on. We're not afraid of change, and we believe in challenging the status quo.

Our track record of innovation is second to none. From our expansion into new jurisdictions, flexible working for attorneys, and our alternative resourcing options such as Peerpoint and aosphere, we are setting the standard for what a global law firm should look like. We're determined not just to be at the forefront of developments, but to set the pace and lead the way.

We're proud to have the resources, the passion and the mindset to build solutions for the future, whatever it may hold.

Diversity & inclusion

LGBT+ inclusion strategy

At A&O, we are all responsible for making our LGBT+ colleagues feel welcome, valued and confident and that they will not be excluded or held back in any way. In order to support our LGBT+ colleagues, we have our employee network, A&Out. The purpose of the network is to encourage diversity and to offer support and networking opportunities to A&O staff. The network also focuses on contributing to the business of the firm by developing new client relationships within the LGBT+ community and strengthening existing ones.

When you join Allen & Overy, you will be working with some of the brightest, most experienced people in the industry and will join a friendly, diverse and inclusive team. Our goal is simple: we want A&O to be a place where a diverse group of people can be themselves and bring the best of themselves to their careers.

Towards a better gender balance

Achieving greater gender balance is central to the kind of firm we want to be. Within our China Practice, we are at 50% female partners, and in Hong Kong its 35%. We see this as excellent role modelling for our female associates and towards our aim of being known as the legal employer that women want to work for. Our initiatives include the establishment of our Emerging Female Leaders cohort of high potential women who are sponsored and supported to take a leadership role in the firm. Our training programmes also target out junior female associates; inspiring and developing them to continue their careers at A&O.

Community investment

With unrivalled depth of expertise and a presence in over thirty countries, we're in a position to effect positive change on pressing issues all over the world. Our pro bono and community investment work is focussed on two major themes - access to justice and access to education and employment - and adapted to the needs and priorities of local cultures. We also bring together the skills and resources of the entire firm to make a significant impact on the work of one organisation through our Global Charity Partnership.

Last year 54% of our lawyers took part in pro bono work to a value of GBP 21.2m - but we try and use the skills of all of our people to their greatest effect, whichever part of the firm they're from and whatever their area of expertise. You could find yourself working for global human rights organisations such as the UNHCR, Fair Trials International and the Equal Rights Trust. The opportunities to progress, both personally and professionally, are endless.
