Pat Hynes is a trial lawyer, specializing in complex securities, commercial and criminal matters. In May 2008, in addition to practicing law, Ms. Hynes became President of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. With almost 23,000 members, the City Bar is the oldest and largest Bar Association in New York.

Pat taught Trial Advocacy at Harvard and Fordham Law Schools, lectured extensively on Securities Law, Class Actions and Civil RICO, and has been a member of The American Law Institute since 1996. From 2000-2001 she was Chair of the American Bar Association's Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary. From 2003 to 2006 Pat was the Chair of the Board of Directors of The Legal Aid Society and oversaw the successful financial restructuring of the Society that saved it from bankruptcy. From 2004 through 2007, Pat was a member of the Departmental Disciplinary Committee of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, First Judicial Department. From 2002 to May 2009, Pat chaired the Merit Selection Panel for Magistrate Judges for the Southern District of New York
