After an extensive softening up exercise, the emergency budget did not contain any dramatic surprises. Corporates will welcome the reduction in the rate of corporation tax by 1% in each of the next four years, but some will be disappointed with the reduction in the rate of capital allowances and that 2011 will bring only an interim reform of the controlled foreign companies rules, full reform being postponed until 2012.

Allen & Overy has advised British Sky Broadcasting Group plc ("BSkyB") on the disposal of its Easynet global enterprise business to an MBO team backed by Lloyds Development Capital for £100m.
Allen & Overy has advised DS Smith on its proposed acquisition of Otor, a leading corrugated packaging company in France, for approximately GBP206 million in cash and the assumption of existing debt, equivalent to an all cash offer of EUR8.97 per Otor S.A. share.
