Social networking in the workplace

25 September 2008

There is no getting away from it. Social networking has moved from the realms of youth culture into the mainstream. Whether it's a blog or poking a friend on Facebook, the tools of communication are constantly changing. And like it or not, this has an impact on the workplace.

Is social networking something an employer should clamp down on? Or does it present a commercial opportunity? At Allen & Overy, we embrace the use of a variety of new social mediums, including blogs, wikis and networking sites, to allow our employees to communicate with each other and with our clients. This has allowed us to become experts in understanding and advising on all of the possible implications and issues that this presents for employers in the workplace.
